Baptist Memorial Manager-Sterile Processing - NM Surgery Central Sterile BMH North MS in Oxford, Mississippi

Summary

Provides strategic leadership, direction, support, accountability, and management of the OR Sterile Processing Department (OR SPD) including decontamination processes and sterile processing in compliance with applicable regulatory standards. Reviews and evaluates department performance reports, usage reports and other fiscal documents for adherence to hospital goals and directives. Also responsible for quality and functional excellence and assists the Perioperative leadership in accomplishing strategic and operational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervision of all SPD staff to achieve established operational performance and quality goals.

  • Manages all collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, distribution and inventory management of equipment, supplies, and sets managed by SPD.

  • Recommends and manages modifications to established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection prevention standards as applicable to SPD.

  • Responsible for analysis of current SPD processes and recommends improvements where necessary.

  • Ensures optimal sterile processing performance through quality control and quality assurance of all SPD activities and equipment.

  • Assures departmental standards of operation and policies are in compliance with regulatory and professional agencies, including but not limited to CMS, TJC, AAMI, AORN and APIC. Recommends equipment changes, upgrades and additions to meet manufacturer's instructions for use (IFU) for all items processed.

  • Trains and develops all SPD staff for new hire onboarding and ensures staff work is performed within prescribed technical and safety standards.

  • Provides on-going and effective communication with physicians, hospital department management, staff and vendor representatives. Represents SPD department by attending appropriate department meetings.

  • Assists Perioperative Leadership in major project initiatives and makes decisions on behalf of the department in support of such initiatives.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Preferred: Completion of formal Sterile Processing Technician course or successfully challenged Course test preferred. Associates degree.

Minimum: Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficienty. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties.Completion of formal Sterile Processing Technician course or successfully challenged Course test preferred. Associates degree.

Experience

Preferred: Previous experience in sterile processing.

Minimum: Three (3) years of experience in an operating room.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Preferred: Current Sterile Processing Technician certification (CSPDT or CRCST) from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

Minimum: BLS within 14 days of hire. IAHCSMM or CBSPD within 3 months

Special Skills

Minimum: Ability to foster collaborative partnerships in the development, implementation and administration of service and program delivery. Computer literacy
