OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION:

Responsible for managing, maintaining, enhancing and strategic development of all database related technologies in EMEA as well as internationally for the Securities and Bank Business.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE :

The Database Operations team are responsible for providing 24x7 RDBMS and NoSQL database support in EMEA and internationally for the Securities and Bank Business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing daily health and compliance checks for all Production systems.

  • Making sure the database systems backups are successful, and resolving any issues promptly.

  • Ensuring the successful operation of database jobs and prompt problem-solving.

  • Promptly detecting and satisfactorily resolving database monitoring alerts.

  • Safeguarding adequate capacity to support projected Business as Usual (BAU) growth.

  • Replying to all emails sent to the team's distribution list promptly.

  • Handling problem tickets and service requests efficiently with the customer's interest in mind.

  • Ensuring that the database platforms are highly available, reliable, secure, and high-performing.

  • Responsible for database installation, configuration, tuning, upgrades and general maintenance activities.

  • Providing technical support to application support and development teams.

  • Providing consultancy to application support and development teams on database and systems design.

  • Executing disaster recovery procedures when necessary.

  • Applying database security updates as per defined policies.

  • Reviewing and subsequently remediating items detected by Qualys vulnerability and compliance scans.

  • Ensuring that all project/investment related workloads are delivered according to plans and budget defined.

  • Ensuring all operational procedures are kept current and accurate.

  • Participating in On-Call rotation, triaging and addressing production issues as they arise.

  • Identifying cost saving and optimisation opportunities within MUS EMEA and the wider MUFG group.

  • Building strong relationships across the Bank and Securities with other Bank and Securities functions and business areas, underpinned by trust and the core values of the bank.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

We are looking for an experienced Database Specialist with the following skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Database Specialist role.

  • Advanced proficiency in multiple database platforms such as MSSQL, Oracle, Sybase, Snowflake, and MongoDB.

  • Expertise in configuring Linux and Windows operating systems for prime database performance.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking, storage, server, and virtualization layers.

  • Proficiency in logical and physical database design.

  • Capable of effective database installation and configuration.

  • Experienced in backup and recovery strategies.

  • Aptitude for database performance and tuning.

  • Experience in database migrations and upgrades.

  • Proficiency in clustering and high-availability.

  • Capable of managing replication and disaster recovery.

  • Expertise in database security and auditing.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of data security governance and regulations such as GDPR and SOX.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with versions of MSSQL, Oracle, SAP (Sybase) ASE and MongoDB.

  • Knowledge of Snowflake.

  • Experience with SQL, T-SQL, and PL-SQL.

  • Command of high-level programming languages such as Python, Perl, Bash, PowerShell, C#, Java, Ruby.

  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Solaris.

  • Knowledge of Windows Server, BMC Control-M, ESX VMWare, Nutanix HCI, Rubrik.

  • Familiarity with EMC and HDS storage arrays, EMC Networker, Data Domain, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.

  • Knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, GitHub, Subversion, TeamCity, CyberArk, Splunk, QRadar, Qualys.

  • Familiarity with SharePoint, JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow, Serena Business Manager.

  • Knowledge of cloud computing - IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS offerings across Azure, AWS, GCP, and Oracle.
