Auxiliary, Health & Wellbeing Marketing

Job Summary

Responsible for the management of the creative department, consisting of FTE graphic designers and student designers as needed. In conjunction with the team, establishes the graphic standards and production practices to be used in Auxiliary, Health, and Wellbeing Marketing. Ensures the department and its clients follow set university branding guidelines and policies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Art Department Supervision and Leadership

    Lead the art department by hiring, training, and mentoring FTE graphic designers and student graphic designers. Establish art department standards for production, productivity, quality, and client service.

    Stay on top of current design trends and production techniques to ensure that the Auxiliary, Health, and Wellbeing marketing and client marketing strategies remain relevant and are effective in reaching target audiences.

    Liaise with the Office of Strategic Communications and Branding to ensure design compliance with university brand standards.

    Ensure team adheres to current processes, identifies opportunities for improvement, and proposes and creates processes and tools to support design operations.

    Oversee project review process, ensuring adherence to brand standards, and proofing final drafts.

    Collaborate with team on on-going creative audits to elevate innovation and establish a unified brand understanding and company voice.

    Assist marketing staff with delegating projects to graphic designers by monitoring project progress and ensuring timely completion based on client deadlines.

  • Graphic Design (print and digital)

    Design and create print and electronic marketing materials for the Auxiliary, Health and Wellbeing Marketing clients. Offer suggestions, alternatives, and ideas when appropriate. Materials include, but not limited to posters, flyers, brochures, catalogs, displays, outdoor and environmental signage, digital signage, and social media graphics.

    Research, create, and execute strategic marketing campaigns designed to increase brand awareness of the Auxiliary, Health and Wellbeing Marketing clients, and other Student Affairs departmental programs and events as assigned.

    Meet with clients; prepares and gives presentations to clients and potential clients, both in-house and for other Student Affairs departments.

    Adhere to the University of Illinois\' graphic identity standards.

    Understand thoroughly all aspects of print production, including sustainability concerns.

    Meet project deadlines and demonstrate a critical eye for detail.

    Manage time appropriately to prioritize projects as they relate to use of design time.

    Process orders for print deliverables.

  • Accepts other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director for Auxiliary, Health and Wellbeing Marketing.

Additional Physical Demands

This position performs duties in general office conditions.

This position may have travel demands both on and off campus.

This position is eligible for hybrid and in-person work environments.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Any one or any combination that equals thirty-six (36) months from the categories below*:

A. credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school course work that would lead to a major in graphic/visual arts communication and/or design

60 semester hours equals 12 months

90 semester hours equals 24 months

120 semester hours or a Bachelor\'s Degree equals 36 months

B. work experience and/ r on-the-job training that provided knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design

2. Twenty-Four (24) months of experience comparable to the Graphic Designer level that included assisting in the supervision of work operations

*A Master\'s Degree in visual design, with emphasis in visual arts communication or a closely related field, meets the requirements of this Minimum Acceptable Qualification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in fine art, graphic design or a similar design.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in graphic design with experience in print and digital design practices.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience with branding.
  • Experience working in a high-paced setting.
  • Experience performing similar duties in a campus setting with students and a multidisciplinary environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Project management, layout and typography.

Knowledge of graphic design principles and production methods with strong aesthetic judgment.
