Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan.Maintenance Specialist I performs entry-level building maintenance and construction work. Work involves assisting in maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment; and operating motorized equipment. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position is required to drive a state-owned vehicle.Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.Essential Job Functions1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.2. Performs maintenance, construction, and repair work such as carpentry, painting, or mechanical work.3. Operates and maintains motorized vehicles and equipment.4. May assist with the preventative maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, and utility systems.5. May assist with carpentry, plumbing; electrical; or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work.6. May assist with maintenance and repairs of machines, equipment, boilers, and boiler feed pumps.7. May perform inspections of operating machinery, equipment, and utility systems to ensure efficient and safe operations.8. Accounts for personal tool inventory by following departmental procedures to ensure safety of patients and employees.9.Performs other duties as assigned. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust possess valid Texas driverand#146;s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driverand#146;s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Knowledge Skills Abilities1. Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.2. Skill in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.3. Ability to follow instructions; to work from drawings, diagrams, or blueprints; and to communicate effectively.4.
