JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role by sharing their expertise with site leaders and teammates. They address a wide variety of EHS-related matters that impact the business. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this individual will assume responsibility for a broad range of EHS activities. These include safety management, conducting facility safety audits to ensure compliance, providing safety training, participating in accident investigations, and leading plant safety programs. The EHS Specialist collaborates closely with leaders and teammates across the organization to develop and implement EHS initiatives at the local level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes and maintains a site based annual safety incentive program and quarterly safety events. 

  • Partners with site leaders in investigating, reporting, and developing action plans related to safety incidents and near-miss incidents.

  • Ensure completion of new employee safety onboarding and all annual recertifications. 

  • Organizes and oversees monthly safety committee meetings.

  • Oversees First Responder program and certifications.

  • Develops and presents training materials to promote employee safety education. 

  • Maintains and monitors all safety metrics and required OSHA reporting for the site. 

  • Maintains training and certification records for compliance in an electronic system.

  • Enhances the conditions of the environment, including air and water and alleviating pollution as well as other factors that affect the state of the environment; and aids in implementing sustainability efforts.

  • Recognizes, assesses, and controls safety and health hazards in the facility, and works with internal departments to minimize occupational health and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Researches and examines sources of pollution and hazards; calculates findings, analyzes data, creates, and proposes ways to eliminate pollution and hazards, and develops reports and presentations related to the organization's environmental regulatory compliance mission.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position.  May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to co-workers.  Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two-year associate degree in safety, industrial or occupational hygiene or related field.

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.   

  • OSHA experience and training strongly preferred.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
