In the role of Research Scientist I you will supervise and independently perform studies on an NIH-funded contract in the Himburg lab within the Department of Radiation Oncology. The position would be to perform pre-clinical efficacy studies in normal tissue radiation injury models. Perform experiments, analyze data, and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research. Responsibilities: Design and execute complex research procedures. Draft detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train other lab members. Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities. Collaborate with principal investigator and program manager in determining study design and performing statistical analyses. Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation. Work with the statistician for analysis. Develop new methodologies for lab procedures. Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders. Schedule meetings with NIH and prepare detailed meeting reports. Schedule lab meetings and work with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures. May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management. Prior work with animal models is desirable. Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
