The chief function of the IT Project Engineer is to transform the Bid documentation from Marketing and Sales, Engineering, and other departments into a set of build documents, training documents, configurations, processes, procedures, and a Bill of Materials (BOM) to meet and exceed a customer’s operational goals for the communication requirements of their project.

Essential Functions / Responsibility:

  • Research product application requirements and specifications, as well as research, analyze customer design proposals, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.

  • Design test product development or engineering projects that meet product requirements and customer standards. Must ensure quality and reliability by conducting design reviews, reviewing test and qualification data, and assuring in-house qualification is complete.

  • Estimate costs/submit bids for engineering, construction, or technology refreshes of projects and preparation of contract documents as well as contribute to, review and provide feedback on specifications and conceptual drawings.

  • Highlight Internal Technical Review (ITR) questions from original specs and PN’s and contribute to the External Technical Review (ETR) meeting with the customer and Sales and Marketing.

  • Update questions in Specs and PN’s, as well as finalize Specs and PN’s from pre-change orders.

  • Conducts R&D on items not identified or being considered within change items.

  • Convey information on new or updated products to the involved departments and personnel. This includes working with Production, Purchasing and Sales on selecting new materials and processes for new and existing items, and provides support to Production and Quality Control in resolving problems.

  • Conduct project kickoff meetings for IT Integration staff. Take part and contribute to the weekly IT department meetings.

  • Provide technical assistance and design consideration to Engineering, Sales, Production, and customers as well as provide after-hours technical support for clients according to I.T. Engineering rotation.

  • Perform in all aspects of the business including:

  • Information systems engineering

  • Documentation creation

  • Research and design

  • Component selection

  • Training of end-user or other Nomad employees

  • Manage IT Engineering related project questions

  • Provide troubleshooting and end product support

    The documentation and tools that the IT Project Engineer will create will include, but not be limited to:

  • Create and maintain build documentation for individual project.

  • Release the above documents, BOM, processes and procedures to the IT Integration team and the Procurement staff in a timely manner.

  • Assist in any changes or updates to the documents promptly.

  • Work with the IT Integration team to meet the Project completion and Test Phase dates agreed upon.

  • Complete device-specific configurations required for the equipment to properly meet the customer’s operational goals contained within Build Specification.

  • Complete the final testing and “sign off” of each vehicle that leaves Nomad.

  • All correspondence and engineering processes will be documented in a project-specific OneNote notebook, and additional Vizo block diagrams will be created.

  • Vizio block diagrams will be created for project WAN and LAN.

    Basic areas of expertise desired:

  • Understands the significance of the Nomad Core Values and demonstrate willingness to apply them.

  • Broad knowledge of communications technologies including voice, data, RF, cellular, VSAT, CCTV, and surveillance, security, rack and power, Microsoft Office and other proprietary systems.

  • Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming of said equipment.

  • The ability to implement new operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information from conferring with engineers and other personnel.

  • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Initiative to be positively team-oriented during team projects as well as be reliable and trustworthy during individual projects and travel unassisted.

  • Have strong trouble shooting and customer service skills.

    Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and talk.

  • May require some degree of manual dexterity.

    Working Environment:

  • Partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending on the time of year, working temperature can fluxgate between 60F and 100F, but typically held at 70F.

  • Team members are subjected to noise levels which may range from quiet to loud. A Hearing Conservation Test was performed, eliminating the requirement for hearing protection; however, it is available if needed on the production floor.

  • All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times on the Production and Fabrication areas on the Floor.

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Graduate Diploma or GED received. Further education desired.

  • Cisco CCNA certification or greater is preferred and may be required within a reasonable time.

  • Experience in voice and data networking, end-user technical support role, writing configurations for different communications equipment, designing and implementing network design.

  • Must be able to work in a schedule-driven environment, as timing is a critical function of each project.
