JOB SUMMARY:

NORC at the University of Chicago, an objective and non-partisan research organization with more than 75 years of leadership in data collection, program evaluation, data analysis, and information dissemination, seeks a Senior Financial Analyst II to join the Corporate Finance team. The Senior Financial Analyst II will provide on-going support for multiple processes, including performance tracking, budget monitoring, forecasting and modeling, and corporate-level pricing. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in project accounting, project management, experience in working with government contracts and grants, and must be able to work both independently and collaboratively.

DEPARTMENT: Financial Management and Analysis NORC’s Financial Management and Analysis department plays a pivotal role across the entire NORC ecosystem. Members of the team ensure that NORC’s financial management functions are fully aligned and integrated so we can support NORC’s work to provide trustworthy data to decision-makers around the world. The FM&A department directly supports research departments and projects, and works closely with the other administrative departments, particularly the Accounting and Finance and Contracts and Grants, to navigate the complex government regulatory environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and ensure the successful execution of the financial planning and forecasting processes of the organization.

  • Report, manage, analyze, and make recommendations concerning corporate indirect expenses.

  • Provide accurate, timely, and useful financial analysis for senior leadership.

  • Lead and effectively work with cross-functional teams to identify and implement new ways to meet the financial information needs of the organization.

  • Act as lead on other ad hoc analysis.

  • Supervise and train financial analysts and non-finance staff, as necessary

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in economics, finance, or finance-related area is required; MBA preferred

  • At least five (5) years of experience handling a wide range of financial responsibilities as a senior financial analyst, financial analyst, or a similar role with cost accounting experience, preferably in a professional services/consulting or contract research company

  • Understanding of federal government accounting regulations as they relate to financial matters

  • Hands on financial planning and analysis experience, demonstrating strong analytic and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to synthesize complex financial data and present analyses/results

  • Proven experience with financial monitoring tasks including budgeting, revenue projections, and cost monitoring in accordance with government accounting regulations

  • Experience developing and implementing processes and procedures to ensure staff adhere to all departmental and corporate standards, rules, and regulations

  • Ability to analyze budget information to provide early warning of projected cost variances from budget

  • Excellent planning/organizational skills and attention to detail, sound judgment, dedicated to meeting tight deadlines and producing high quality work while managing competing priorities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with finance and non-finance staff across departments and levels

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft products. Cost Point and FocusPoint experience is a plus.

  • Experience supervising junior staff or willingness to learn

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    The pay range for this position is$80,000 - $119,000.

    This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
